The Artist:
Pat Langley is a mixed media sculptor who works primarily with glass. In 2016 Langley earned their BFA in Sculpture and is currently living a nomadic lifestyle working in various glass studios around the United States. Generally speaking, Pat uses glass, fiber, wood, metal, and science to create art that nods to the interconnectedness of life, the universe, and everything.
Pat believes in the importance of arts education, and that every person deserves the opportunity to learn and express themselves through art. Pat loves to travel, and strives to bring love, beauty, and inspiration into others’ lives by promoting creativity.
The Brand:
At Plang Thangs, our goal is to create stylish, affordable, and sustainable fashion using upcycled fibers and flameworked glass. We aim to bring luxury fashion to a lower price point than big name brands while still offering quality goods. Every accessory is a unique piece of wearable art meticulously handmade to help keep discarded fibers out of landfills. The search for materials is a holistic process that spans across the USA. While traveling Langley browses thrift stores, yard sales, and other secondhand venues to collect the hidden gems used to create these pieces.
The first collection and production of the “Pants-Purse” design was inspired by Y2K fashion and 80’s denim trends. The first century after jeans were created by Levi Strauss denim was worn by the lower class, mostly as a work pant. It wasn’t until the 1980’s that high end designers entered the jean market which grew jean popularity with the upper class. In our current social climate jeans are for everyone and come in a variety of styles, fits, colors, and prices. This collection pulls from the roots of denim’s conception and transforms the “designer” narrative into accessible funky fashion.
