GET LOST IN THE MOSS
FIRST SOLO SHOW @ CHRYSLER MUSEUM GLASS STUDIO, APRIL 2022
Moss lives in spaces all around us, whether it be urban or rural. When we are immersed in a forest where moss, lichen, mushrooms, and trees are free to grow, it is easy to lose track of time while exploring. There is a certain peace the comes to mind while wandering in nature. Get Lost in the Moss is an invitation to slow down, observe, and contemplate the nature that consumes us all.
Smokey Mosscape, 2021
Digital collage
This collage is made from hundreds of photographs taken in the Smokey Mountains and slong the Blue Ridge Parkway in Tennessee and North Carolina. Organic and geometric shapes overlap to create a visual playground full of texture. This collage contains hidden messages amongst the mess of moss, lichen, and fungus. How many messages can you find?
Thang #417, 2021
Glass, copper wire, wood, moss
Epiphytes, such as moss, lichen, and fungus, are represented in glass and sit on a log found in the Northwestern Virginia. The crystalized bowl originally contained a solution of vinegar and salt. The protruding glass forms are constrained by handwoven copper cages. Over a 6 month period, the copper has been interacting with the vapors from the vinegar solution, causing it to turn blue and grow ******atomic structures.** As the solution dried up, it left salt crystals on the bowl and the adjacent patch of real moss. This sculpture will continue to change with the absence of the solution and exposure to oxygen.
